The writers’ strike is having an impact on Saturday Night Live, as was to be expected.
Due to the writers’ strike, NBC has decided to cancel the May 6 edition of Pete Davidson’s late-night sketch comedy show. Lil Uzi Vert was scheduled to perform as a musical guest. Starting on May 6, repeats will air on Saturday nights until further notice.
After failing to come to an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the Writers Guild of America (WGA) is now formally on strike. We already know that reruns will appear throughout the interim on late-night talk shows including Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night With Seth Meyers, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
The most recent writers’ strike took place in 2007, lasting 100 days. That took place in the middle of the season, from November 2007 to February 2008. The majority of scripted shows’ season finales ought to be finished by now, with many of them scheduled to premiere in the upcoming May weeks. Weekly and daily programs (like SNL)
The hosting position for SNL was to serve as advertising for Davidson’s upcoming Peacock comedy, Bupkis, which centers on a fictionalized version of himself. (Lorne Michaels from SNL is one of the executive producers.) At the conclusion of Season 47 in May 2022, Davidson was one of several cast members that left the late-night sketch program.
We’ll have to wait to see if the writers’ strike is resolved in time for Davidson’s episode, as well as how long it lasts.
